We are sad to report that Ros Evans died on 31 August 2024.  Ros was a pioneering female fell runner, as well as a top orienteer and cross-country skier. In 1978 she won the first Women’s Mountain Trial of the modern era and won three more times in 1979, 1980 and 1982.

Joss Naylor 1936-2024 Joss took part in the Lake District Mountain Trial 56 times in the period 1960 to 2021. The first time in 1960, he had not entered so was non-competitive but he went on to complete the Classic Trial 42 times and the Short Trial 10 times. Joss won the Classic Mountain Trial

We are said to announce the death of Edwin Coope. Edwin only stood down as  the LDMTA President at last year’s AGM.  Edwin’s died on 17th June. He was the LDMTA Secretary for 21 years, co-author of “50 Years Running” and sole author of “60 Years Running”. Funeral arrangements are: Requiem at 10am on Wednesday

The AGM of the Lake District Mountain Trial Association will be held on Friday 24th November 2023 at Wilf’s Café, Staveley. Unfortunately Sabrina Verjee is now unable to present her talk. However LDMTA’s Secretary Allan Miller has kindly stepped into the breach to give an illustrated talk on his challenging trek along the 2,650 mile
